We called Mike and interrupted
him watching his favorite game show and dusting off a bag of
Doritos. We decided to give him some hell.....
How long have you been playing?
"I think I was 10. I remember
taking my first lessons and the teacher would smack my fingers
every time I hit a bad note or strummed a chord wrong."
Who were your major musical influences
as a kid?
"Lots of the hard rock and
metal scene is what I grew up on. You name 'em, I listened to
'em all."
Was music big in your family?
"Well let's see... In thie
band you got me playing bass. My brother Chris on drums and my
brother Joe on guitar. Yeah, I'd say so. (laughs)."
When did you get your first guitar?
"My grandfather bought me an
old Mustang guitar from the swap meet. I have a picture of me
playing it.. Man, I wish I still had that one."
What type of bass do you prefer today?
"Well that depends on the lake.
Some lakes don't stock very often and you get old stale bass
and the small ones ya gotta throw back. Fat bass are cool cause
ya get more meat to 'em and frying 'em can be good if ya got
the right spices for the bass. Now some bass are so quick that
you gotta be very quiet and snap the line to.. what? oh, I'm
sorry, never mind."
Who's your favorite guitarist?
"Man, tough question. I've
always liked Michael Schenker. But then you have the Jimmys (Page
and Hendrix), and then you got Randy Rhodes, Mick Ronson from
the early Bowie days. Let's see then you got Joe Perry, Alex
Lifeson, Steve Howe, the Priest boys (Tipton and Downing), Uli
Roth from Scorps, Richie Blackmore, The Eddie (you know) then
you got the Steves (Vai and Vaughn).. should I continue...?"
Who's your favorite bassist?
"I like Flea from the Red Hot
Chili Peppers alot. He's cool."
What's your favorite ROCKBOTTOM song?
"My favorite is the one that
starts with music."
Who's your favorite group today?
"Oh, there is so much versatility
out here in rock n roll that I am really digging it all."
Do you have kids?
"Yes, I have a beautiful daughter
who loves to let me go shopping with her when she buys clothes.
We have the most interesting and heart felt conversations about
styles. I think she likes it the most when I pick something out
for her (laughs)."
Are you married?
"I've never been married. But
I am willing to learn and am currently accepting applications."
What do you do for fun?
"Listen to music, hang out
with friends and family, play chess, .. screw."
Do you play any other instruments?
"I'd like to learn the triangle.
I've seen it done on one of them thar westerns. It looks a might
easy."
Who would you most like to jam with,
dead or alive?
"See question 6... Tahdah!"
Anything else we should know?
"Thanks for checking out the band's website and hope
to see ya soon. Especially you in the front with the lace panties
and the see-through Hooters shirt. MAMA!!" |
